Karachi: In a brazen attack on a drug rehabilitation facility in the Mominabad area of Karachi, a group of drug dealers stormed the center and forcibly freed 117 individuals undergoing treatment for drug addiction.
The incident occurred at the "Sunshine" Rehabilitation Center, located adjacent to the Mominabad Police Station. During the assault, the attackers vandalized the facility, broke down doors, and physically assaulted a police officer and other personnel present at the scene. Both the officer and police staff were injured in the attack.
The facility, which has been operational for several years, has played a significant role in rehabilitating drug addicts and reintegrating them as productive members of society. According to the administration, the motive behind the attack was to sabotage the rehabilitation efforts and revive the local drug trade, which had seen a marked decline since the center was established.
Authorities stated that legal action will be initiated against those involved, and a formal case is being registered against the attackers. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the suspects.
